       It was an inspiration, a vision of the Late Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, that services should be rendered to the humanity at the least possible cost. In the year 1931, this became a reality. SHETH VADILAL SARABHAI GENERAL HOSPITAL was founded. With an initial capital of Rs. 4 Lacs and with 120 beds today, this hospital has become a beacon of hope to thousands not only in the state but also across the country.

Functioning in the 75th year, popularly known as the V.S. Hospital, today with a annual budget of arround Rs. 68 crores and 1085 beds and with nominal rates to the patients with an income below Rs. 1500/- p.m. It has become an example of service towards humanity by the dedicated doctors those who have spent their lives here. Under the aegis of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation the hospital treats about 5 lacs patients annually, averaging 1600 patients a day and carries out about 25,000 surgeries annually. But, the story remains incomplete if it is not stated that the hospital rises up to gigantic measures during epidemics, riots, accidents, calamities and disasters. People have time and again reposed their faith on V.S. Hospital.

SHETH VADILAL SARABHAI GENERAL HOSPITAL is a multi-activity and multi-specialist institute by itself. Beyond being a hospital it is also a teaching Institute of repute, Sheth K. M. School of Postgraduate Medicine and Research is attached to this hospital for postgraduate teaching. Postgraduate Diploma and Degree courses are being conducted in almost all the branches of Medicine & Surgery at this institution. Superspeciality - courses, like M.Ch. in Neurosurgery, Pediatric surgery and Plastic surgery are of immense importance here.

Apart from Medicine, Surgery, Obst. & Gynec, V.S. Hospital also has all the specialities like Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Gastroenterities, Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic & Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Paediatrics, Pathology, Radiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesia etc.

Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College is attached to this hospital for undergraduate & postgraduate teaching. The other para-medical courses like B.Sc. in Physiotherapy, Diploma in Nursing, Certificate courses in Radiographers and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) are conducted at this institution.
